Why we chose Madagascar

Deforestation has long been an issue for Madagascar, more than 90% of the primary forests are destroyed, impacting people living in extreme poverty the most.

It is one of the world’s top biodiversity conservation priorities because of its high concentration of endemic species and severe habitat loss rates.

In the coastal zone, mangrove deforestation destabilises the coastline, increasing the vulnerability of coastal communities to storms and weather events – which are becoming more frequent and intense due to human-induced climate change.

This project has been initiated in response to the large-scale loss of mangroves and upland forests in Madagascar.

Why we chose Honduras

The Honduras Rainforest Reforestation Project is a crucial effort to combat the rapid deforestation that threatens Central America’s rich biodiversity and ecological balance. Honduras, known for its lush rainforests, has faced alarming rates of forest loss, endangering unique species and affecting the regional climate and culture.

This ambitious initiative aims to plant a diverse range of native trees, revitalizing these vibrant ecosystems.

Why we chose the Philippines

The Philippine archipelago, a lush paradise in the Pacific, has faced severe deforestation, impacting its rich biodiversity and the stability of its tropical ecosystems. Over the 20th century, the forest cover of the country dropped from 70% down to 20%.

The Philippine Tropical Reforestation Project, in collaboration with local environmentalists, aims to restore these vital forests and preserve the Philippines’ natural heritage for future generations.
