Here at mdgroup, one way we support patients during clinical trials is by organising and overseeing investigator meetings and site training for Clinical Research Organisations (CROs), healthcare professionals (HCPs) and sponsors.
Since March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we found ourselves unable to host events in-person. But trials had to continue, so we’ve been working with our clients and partners to facilitate virtual meetings.
We’ve learned a lot during this period of innovation and experimentation, and our virtual meetings have been a great success – though we can’t wait to get back together, in person, with our team and clients.
As we move into this next period of adjustment and physical events start to happen again – with all necessary safety precautions in place – we wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to our event services team in a series of mini-interviews.
Today, we speak to Project Co-ordinator Isabella Stellar. Isabella has been working at mdgroup for a year, and during this time she’s had the opportunity to work with some incredible venues in beautiful cities. She’s really been missing travelling and exploring new places during lockdown, so we caught up with her to talk about her favourite places to meet for events and what she’s been up to since March.
Isabella, what’s your favourite city to meet for an event and why?
My favourite city to meet for an event so far in my career is Rio de Janeiro because of the culture and seaside city atmosphere. When I was there, we stayed right on Copacabana Beach at the Hilton which overlooked one entire side of the coast and out into the ocean. Being just a few yards from the water made me feel like I was in paradise while being at work, which to me is the best of both worlds!
Another aspect I liked about Rio de Janeiro was the historic culture with one of the Seven New Wonders Of The World just a few miles away: Christ the Redeemer. It was a beautiful city overall, with Brazilian Steakhouses everywhere to delight our delegates at lunch and dinner.
What’s your favourite venue you have worked in and why?
My favourite venue to work in was in Scottsdale, Arizona. The venue is called Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch. I loved it because of the beautiful scenery at all hours of the day and night. For lunch and dinner, there was an outside terrace option we chose, and it was just breath-taking – there were also warmers if it was chilly! It was simply stunning. From the lobby to the meeting rooms, this venue had it all to make our delegates comfortable and relaxed during their stay.
What skills or lessons have you learned during lockdown?
During lockdown, I have mastered the skill of creating on the newest social media app, TikTok. At first, it was just an app to keep me occupied and to shift my mind in my downtime, but I have learned different ways to use the app for fun work purposes, like keeping the team upbeat and stress-free. I proposed the idea of creating an Event Team TikTok to send out to the company. Each of us had a random household object, and on our weekly team call, we all passed the object to one another to create a cool chain reaction. Once finished, we sent it company-wide and it became a fun company trend within each department! It kept us all laughing each week during quarantine watching the different teams come up with silly ideas. I have used this app for fitness purposes, learning purposes, and even social purposes now with my colleagues and friends!
I am thankful for the ability to work in a company where there is laughter and great fun, even virtually. However, I am eager to get back into the office with my team so we can continue to build our brand and expand our services.
Looking for more support with investigator meetings and site training?
We can’t wait to see you all again at events soon! In the meantime, we’ve published this helpful guide on how to run effective virtual meetings, as well as preparing for meeting again in-person with the required social distancing and hygiene measures.
